Nursery Prep

The dressers are finally finished! They still didn't turn out exactly as I wanted, but after working forever on these things, I am happy to throw them in baby's room and never touch them again :) They were my first larger furniture project, so I am excited to try something new in the future and improve on what I've learned.

I ended up going with a two-tone color scheme (Olympic: Heirloom Lace and Puppy Paws) and kept it pretty neutral, since a lot of the decorative things I am finding will have some color. I was originally just going to keep them the way they were after painting them, but thought they looked kind of boring, so I distressed them and roughed them up a bit. I found the hardware for half-off at Hobby Lobby (holla!) and voila!

The nursery is coming along a little bit better now... We just have to decide on the right moment to take down poor Jordan's drums so we can move all of the furniture into the right place.

We scored an almost new and super comfy glider rocker on Craigslist, and after a few more projects, ordering/hanging of some decorations,  and getting the rest of his bedding, it will be finished. Hallelujah!

Other DIYs...

 I "borrowed" an idea from Urban Outfitters and made a wooden letter to hang on the little bear's wall. After ordering free highway maps from the Tennessee DOT, making Modge Podge out of glue, and getting the letter with my HL coupon, this puppy cost about three bucks. Bargain!

 Since moving into our new place, I have been trying to figure out what to do with this old thing from Target. It gives off a good amount of light, but the shade is plasticy looking and doesn't go with anything. I found burlap that matches his quilt, so the shade is getting a makeover and being turned into the perfect nursery lamp! Woo hoo!

Once the place is finished, we will post some more pictures. 9 more weeks!

Furniture Re-Do

Okay, friends and family, I need more help! (Do I ask for it too much? I just value my loved ones opinions :)

I know all of you are super creative, especially my sisters-in-law, mommy, and lady friends, so I need some ideas.

When we first moved, I got a dresser and nightstand off of Craigslist for baby's room ($25 dollars for both.... seriously). They were a bit dated and needed some definite cosmetic work, but I saw potential with a little paint and elbow grease.

I took off the (yucky) hardware and removed the chunky and over the top PLASTIC (?) molds from the outside, and have since gone to work filling in the holes and chips, sanding, and priming the smaller nightstand.

If you remember this post, I was hoping to go for a darker green color for them, but I just haven't been able to find a paint color that feels right. Also, the more I realize how much time we will be spending in that room, the more I feel like a brighter and cheerier color scheme will be better. Everything else like bedding and the crib will be pretty neutral, so I want to give these puppies some color :)

At this point, I have been drawn to blues and reds, but I am really open to anything. Also, I am hoping to do both the big and little piece the same color, mostly because I am a cheapo and don't want to go crazy spendy in the paint section.

At this point, I don't have anything decoration-wise for the room, so I am just gonna let the color of them lead me in whatever direction they will. As you can see in the first picture, our walls are a tan/brown color (maybe a little darker than they look) and can't be painted, so we have to work with that.

Also, can you tell I am the most indecisive person in the world? I realize that these choices are all over the place.

Any ideas? Opinions? Suggestions?

Home Sweet Home

As promised, here are some pictures of our town.

Since I am currently jobless [boo hoo :(], I have a lot of time on my hands. Last week, I decided to head to our little square and walk around/snap some pictures so our friends and family could get to know where we live.

We have a really beautiful library and a nice little area around it. There is about a block or two of "downtown" where there are teeny mom 'n pop shops and an awesome farmer's market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

We also spent some time last week in Uptown having a BBQ with friends. Enjoy these ones, because after being towed that evening, we are a little bitter and less than thrilled to go back up any time soon :)

Uptown Charlotte is a really interesting mesh of older structures that have been there forever and new, posh skyscrapers and buildings. It is neat to spend time just driving around the different neighborhoods and taking in all the restaurants, parks, and architecture.

Though we miss our friends and families (a lot), we are enjoying our time here and trying to learn more about all that the area has to offer.
