Life Lately

Oh, hey...

Haven't had a lot to update the past week. We've been doing lots of baby browsing (seriously, how many car seats are there to choose from? I never realized until now). Little man's crib should be coming any time today! Wahoo! We are planning to set it up for FHE tonight, so I will try and do some documentation.

Also, I have been working a lot on this  project, though it is going a little slower than I would like because it has been 90 degrees and above every day and my body has become an oven.

Once that's complete, I just have to keep working on the nursery and getting it all put together! I have some more DIY ideas (thanks to Pinterest) to keep myself occupied.

This whole nesting thing is no joke... I am not even in the third trimester, yet (one more week) and I seriously just spend every day trying to do something new to baby's room or the house or trying to find a new thing to clean/organize.

Also, we have decided that we might take a little trip with our friends over the Fourth to this place....

Ahhh... Myrtle Beach

The whole "having a giant belly" thing on the beach this year has been making me a little wary, but I got a sassy new swimsuit, so here's hoping I feel a lot like this...

and less like this...

Can't wait! :)

There's a Baby in There

It's true! There is a new little member coming to the Rose clan in September 2012.

Sorry to leave a lot of you hanging all that time (even though most probably had a feeling there was something different). The true Scotsman in me is way superstitious, and I didn't feel like blogging about anything until we were out of the first trimester (which was a doozy... more on that later). Needless to say, we are pretty delighted!

Back in January, I started feeling SUPER weird... just tired and icky and had a bad appetite (which, most of you know, is definitely not normal for the girl who takes seconds of everything). Thinking I might be "with child," a took a test that came back negative, and just chalked it up to maybe catching something on the plane coming home from the holidays or just being worn out.

One Wednesday night a little bit later, Jordan and I went out for sushi (probably one of my top 3 favorite foods), and after eating about 3 or 4 pieces, I just couldn't stomach any more (unheard of). That's when we realized something was definitely up :)

That weekend, we took some tests and sure enough, those beautiful double pink lines showed up (within about 10 seconds... seriously).

Warning: the following is a photo of said tinkle sticks. Let's try to be mature about this ;)

We may or may not have been both terrified (well, me mostly) and elated at the same time, as evident by the following picture.... Also, we aren't jaundiced. Blame it on bathroom lighting!

The further along I get (I'm almost 16 weeks), the more and more excited we become, if that's even possible. It's been an adventure, even in this short time, but we can't wait to meet our little nugget and squeeze and kiss it to pieces!

Here is an ultrasound from my most recent appointment a while ago at 12 weeks.

Cute, no? ;)

Right now, we are just biding our time until the beginning of May when we can find out if is a little HE or SHE and really get to planning and preparing for the little one! I feel like it's a girl, but every dream I have had about baby is a boy.

Do you have any guesses!?

Thanks so much to our friends and families for being so congratulatory, positive, and helpful! We love you!

Oh, boy

Hiiii...

(You couldn't hear it, but I said that like Ross from Friends when he is feeling melancholy)

Today was kind of a doozy. I have been settling into my new job for the past week-ish; I am so grateful to be working again and am liking the company and all of the people I am getting to know, but I always forget how overwhelming starting over can be.

Do you ever have those times when you get super stressed out and where you want to go somewhere private and curl in a ball and whimper to yourself? No? Yeah, me neither.

After a long day of feeling like a complete noob, I came home and ate an entire 12-inch meatball sub while watching Mad Men. On the floor. In my underclothings. Quite a pretty picture, no?

I'll cut it out with being a grumpy gills and update you on our weekend! Friday.... I can't even remember what we did now. Oh, yes, Rock Band. We also may or may not have gotten reprimanded by neighbors for being too loud. Oops. When you're slappin' the bass, you just can't fight it, ya know!?

Saturday, we were all pumped to go hiking at Crowder's Mountain (the nearest thing to our beloved Provo Canyon out here), but 3/4 of the way through our journey, it started pouring. Classic Charlotte! Instead, we drove around looking at the pretty scenery and stopped in the visitor's center to play with the bird watching exhibits and play hide and seek in its fake rock walls. Naturally.

What the view of Crowder's Mountain might have looked like, had we made it to the top.

Sunday, we had a delicious BBQ with some friends in Uptown. I also gave a talk in church... and may have started bawling like a puny baby during the middle of it. That's what happens when you get Lyssie Poo all nervous in front of a congregation! It ended up going well, however, and we are really enjoying our ward and all of the sweet people and families that belong to it.

That was about it for the weekend; I still have some updating to do about some fun times we have been having, so I will try my best to post a little more later. The rest of the evening will be spent grocery shopping (joy!)and convincing Jordan that my frustrating day deserves at least five straight minutes of him playing with my hair.

He's really good at it. Don't tell anyone. It will ruin his street cred.

Adieu, adieu, to you and you and you.

It smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me...

I'm alive!

Just busy. Thus, the lack of updating. Sorry, fans. Fans meaning my mom and dad, who are the most devoted of readers :)

I survived an apocalypse of sorts today. I was on my way home from work (!!! yes, I am employed now. Hallelujah!), and decided to make a stop at the Asian market for some much needed cooking staples.

I know I have talked about this place before, but I have to reiterate just how amazing it is. Part of the reason is because it's super authentic, which also means that I am unable to find half of the stuff on my list most of the time because everything on the labels and aisles is written in another language.

When I was walking through the parking lot to go in, there was some lightning and a faint smell of rain. During my perusing, I could hear thunder and lots of commotion outside. There I was, trying to find some tamarind paste, when the entire store went pitch black!

I sat there for a second, waiting for something to happen, but there were only a couple flickers of the lights, and then more blackness. Eventually, they a few emergency lights on, and started instructing everyone how to proceed on the loud speaker... in Chinese. Uhhh, let's just say I'm not familiar with that dialect.

Thankfully, it was made known to me that they would only have fifteen minutes of backup power, so if I wanted to get my groceries, I needed to get my booty on the move. I tried to find some meat, but couldn't really tell the difference between all of the different things available in the dark. A sweet clerk tried to help me, but I ended up just shouting "Chicken thighs! Chicken thighs!" incessantly at him until we both gave up.

As you probably guessed (since you are reading this), I made it out in one piece. That's what you get with these crazy NC storms. After that little ordeal, we had a lovely dinner together and went to Jordan's company softball game.

Now, my little darlings, my pillow is calling my name every so sweetly, but keep your eyes peeled for some craaaazy updating this weekend! Adieu

Monday, Monday...

I had ice cream for breakfast this morning.

It is one of those days.

A case of the Mondays, perhaps?

After a fun and relaxing weekend, it is always hard when the ol' hubby goes back to work and I am left to my own devices when it comes to entertainment.

Oh please oh please, somebody employ this poor soul! I am pretty cheerful most of the time (unless I am hungry, in which case, back away slowly) and I know how to napkin fold. I mean, come on, people!

While I am in this... transitionary state, I need some good ideas of cheap and talent improving/life brightening distractions. The only ones I have come up with so far are volunteering, blogging (obviously), and going to the library and/or Big Lots at least thrice a week. Ayudame, por favor!

On a more fun (and less pathetic) note, we had a wonderful weekend. Friday night, we had our friends Kei and Nami over for some Massaman Curry(we're pretty hooked on Thai food around here lately)and a few rousing games of Rummikub. Jordan and Kei work together, and he and his sweetie of a wife are here in Charlotte from Japan. It is fun to spend time with them comparing cultures and languages, and it makes us feel like we should be a little less whiney when it comes to missing our families and friends (at least we are still in the same country!)

Saturday, we were able to drive down to Columbia, SC, to visit the temple and drive around town a little bit. It was good for us to get away for a day, even if it wasn't very far, and visit a new place. Downtown Columbia is really beautiful and full of some really amazing architecture. We stopped at an old church to walk around the grounds and graveyard; some of the tombstones were from the 1800's.

Yesterday afternoon, we had some of Jordan's friends over to watch F1 racing and Top Gear and BBQ brats (obviously, all of these things were my idea. kidding ;) sometimes, you just gotta live in a man's world, ladies!) We capped the evening off with a nice sunset walk. I wish I would have taken pictures of my hair... when we left, it was tied back tight in a ponytail, but by the time we got back home, I had developed a strange curly crown of baby hairs all around my forehead. Gorgeous. Gotta love the humidity!

I am so grateful we were able to have such a great past couple of days. Next time, the things we've learned about living in the South. Stay tuned!
